About The Tests

Our Male kits provide you with the same tests that you would receive if you visited a high quality NHS Sexual health clinic in the UK.

  • The HIV test will test for both HIV antigen and HIV antibodies. This means that the test will correctly identify over 95% of new HIV infections within four weeks (one month) after exposure and 99.7% after twelve weeks (three months).

If you think you have been exposed to HIV within the last 72 hours you should contact your local Sexual Health Clinic or your local A&E department to see if you may need Post Exposure Prophylaxis after Sexual Exposure (often called PEP or PEPSE).

If you have taken a risk more recently than four weeks (one month) ago you should repeat these tests at four weeks and again at three months.

  • The Syphilis antibody blood test checks for your body’s response to syphilis. It can take up to eight weeks for syphilis to show up on tests. Therefore, if you have taken a risk within the last 8 weeks and the first test you send to us comes back as negative, it would be advisable to repeat the test. If you have had syphilis before, the test will be reactive; you will therefore need to attend a clinic to take further tests to verify whether the reactive result indicates a new infection or a previously treated one.
  • Chlamydia and gonorrhoea Aptima™ tests check your samples for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. The Aptima Combo Tests™ are the gold standard, used in the best clinics everywhere.

All of our samples are tested in the laboratories run by Public Health England (PHE) in Birmingham. These laboratories have passed the very highest accreditation standards (CPA ISO 15189:2012), so you can be confident of the test results you receive. Our HIV tests are 4th Generation, and are performed using the Abbot Architecht™ technology.
